British Magazines: I subscribe to 3. They are, DollsHouse and Miniature Scene, Dolls House World and The Dolls' House magazine. The 1st 2 have web sites:-www.emfpublishing.co.uk for DHMS and www.dollshouseworld.com for DHW. The DHM says to e-mail JayDolls@aol.com or rachelb@thegmcgroup.com I also occasionally buy one called International Dolls' house News but I can find no web or e-mail for them. They each have something different to offer.

Victorian Fashions; I just purchased a book from Hobby House Press called "Victorian Fashions: A Pictorial Archive" and it is wonderful. There are enough ideas for Victorian dolls hats, hair, cloths, shoes and accessories to last me a lifetime. There are 965 beautiful illustrations of clothing by year starting at 1855 and continuing through 1903. Anyone who loves Victorian dolls would love this book by Carol Belanger Grafton (Dover press). I am sure that a person could get it at any good book store. It was less than $20.00 after shipping cost from Hobby House and worth every penny!

Dolls' House Magazine: The Dolls' House Magazine is still going. I am a subscriber and just received the latest issue. They publish 10 issues in a year, which is maybe why there was a gap. I don't think they send reminders as such. My subscription was due recently and instead of a reminder I got an introductory offer leaflet asking if I wanted to try this new magazine, which I have subscribed to since #2! June is the latest issue.

Costume Books: My favorite book: Patterns for Theatrical Costumes by Katherine Strand Holkeboer. My Barnes and Noble had it in stock. But both B&N and Books-A-Million were able to look it up on their computer. It starts with togas and ends with modern fashion. Big thick book, all illustrations and photos, each with patterns close to being scale although not meant for minis.

Needlework Books: Sharon posted that she had just bought a great book - "Miniature Embroidery for the Victorian Dolls' House" by Pamela Warner (ISBN number: 1 86108 095 6). I have to agree with her that it is a lovely book.

Pamela Warner has come out with another book "Miniature Embroidery for the Georgian Dolls' House" (ISBN number: 1 86108 136 7) and it is just as great. There are lovely projects in both books. I'm just about to start a needlework firescreen in the Georgian book.

Shaker furniture book: Try Shaker Miniature Furniture by C. Rubin for making shaker furniture (obviously!). It's an older book i believe. The illustrations are all in black and white, but it looked very interesting and got me wanting to make some. The call number for it at our library is 745.5923 RUB.

Miniature Books: I've seen a couple of messages from subscribers looking for dolls house and miniature books namely Making Dollshouse Miniatures With Polymer Clay and the New Dollshouse Do It Yourself Book. Try www.miniaturebookshop.com They have a large selection of reference and how to books. And talking of books - thanks to the digest I found out about the Reference Guide To Miniature Makers Marks that was auctioned last week on eBay. I made a successful bid and just received the book and I love it! Talking of postage the book cost $39.99 and the postage $38.50 but it was still worth it. If you really want something you just have to consider the price plus the postage when bidding, and remember that you have saved a lot of time and energy and fuel by not having to travel to a shop.

Shopping for Books: Next time you want a book try the site http://www.askjeeves.com/ and you can ask where you can comparison shop for books, give the title and get lots of choices. Works really well and I have saved a lot of money there.

Book Shopping: Go to http://www.addall.com/. This site allows you to search for a book by author, title, or ISBN number (which you can find on www.Amazon.com or www.bn.com). It then compares the price (including shipping) at many different online bookstores (some of which are smaller and less well-known) and lists them for you in order of price. I found a copy of Sue Heaser's "Making Doll's House Miniatures" using this site, and after hearing all of you tell about the troubles you had finding it, I decided to put up the $23 or so and buy it. I have bought some of my textbooks using addall.com and it is great - offers you a wider choice of prices, etc all on one page.
